Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is a way of recognizing, understanding and choosing how we think, feel and act. It is the capacity to get optimal results from your relationships with yourself and others – the intelligent use of our emotions. How effective is a person in managing relationships, managing their emotions, understanding other people’s emotions, and motivating themselves?

Research suggests EQ is responsible for as much as 96% of the success in our lives. 

EQ is a different way of being smart.  EQ looks at personal qualities such as empathy, emotional self-control, adaptability and persuasiveness. 

Studies by different experts have shown that IQ takes second position behind EQ (emotional intelligence) in determining job performance. When IQ test scores are correlated with how well people perform in their careers, the highest estimate of how much difference IQ accounts for is about 25%.  Some studies point to IQ being responsible for as little as 4% of job success!
 
IQ is the baseline.  You need IQ to get the job, but you need EQ to keep the job. HOW you do the job – your Emotional Intelligence – and the other factors you bring to your work determine your performance.

Although IQ cannot be increased, EQ can be learned and increased.
